Apr 1, 2009 · Usually, Xoconostle is used for the fruit, not the plant itself which for most Mexicans just looks like a nopal. In Mexico, the fruit is used mostly for cooking, specially stews and soups, like "mole de olla" or "caldo tlalpeño". It's pretty bitter and acidic. Cheers. P.S.
