Why is 12AX7 so popular? - The Gear Page
Mar 24, 2017 · And since it's a dual triode, you get two gain stages out of one tube. So that cuts down manufacturing costs versus something like a 6AV6, which is just a single triode (or double diode which won't work as a gain stage). They're also the highest gain version of the 9 pin miniature dual triode types. And we sure love gain!
Preamp Tubes with triodes that have different gain factors?
May 13, 2021 · I am looking to compile a list of tubes with different triode gain factors because I would like to experiment a bit and really tweak some of my amps preamp stages. Not sure how popular this concept was in vacuum tube production but I do know a few of these oddballs exist like the 12DW7 and also...
Newb Question About Simple Repair (Goodsell Super 17)
Mar 21, 2018 · Dear collective wisdom, I hope this question won't be rejected as too simple, but I've never worked on an amp before. I have a Goodsell Super 17 mk II head (simple three-knob, no extra features like pentode/triode switch or verb/trem). I was replacing the chicken-head knobs with Marshall-style...
Marshall Silver Jubilee 2525 vs. 2554 - The Gear Page
May 22, 2017 · I just bought a new Marshall Silver Jubilee 2525 Combo. It definitely rocks and i like the sound of the clean and the crunch channel without the rythm clip engaged very much. I also noticed a big difference between the 5 and the 20 watt setting. While in the 20 watt setting the amp really shines...
Scratchy/bump in tail end of tone-pot's throw | The Gear Page
Apr 9, 2013 · At about 7:30 or so it makes sort of a scratchy "bump" noise. It's not loud, it's relatively subtle but not hard to hear. The circuit is simple. Signal comes off the plate on the first triode and goes through terminal 1 and on its way thru a .02 coupling cap and 470K resistor on its way to the grounded volume pot.
Low output tubes for blues junior - The Gear Page
Jun 15, 2017 · To cut your BJr volume in half, you'll need to decrease output to 1.5W. You aren't getting there with low output power tubes. An inefficient speaker (say, 94dB) can make as much difference (if not more) was a pentode/triode switch since most speaker live in the 98-100 dB range. As stated before, an attenuator is probably your best bet.
Tube amp "feel" from modeler, question - The Gear Page
Sep 25, 2019 · In triode mode, there is more sag because the plate voltage has more of an effect on plate current in a triode. The supply sag created by the power transformer resistance lowers not only the plate voltage, but the screen voltage as well, since the screen is nearly always a filtered version of the supply going to the plate.
DR. Z Maz 8 | Page 6 | The Gear Page
Sep 26, 2011 · Have been all over the map from the new Vox custom heads to Bad Cat Cub IIIr, 3rd Power Dual Citizen and the Maz 8, which is most appealing to me right now because it's the lowest-powered of the bunch (while still having some of the versatility of pentode/triode plus reverb) and the studio combo is a nice form factor for me.
Helix 3.7 - question about Brit 2203 model. - The Gear Page
Nov 18, 2023 · The model sounds great, but switching to the ‘low’ input kills the input almost completely. Is this normal behaviour?
