These rules govern the procedure in the justice, county, district, and business courts of the State of Texas in all actions of a civil nature, with such exceptions as may be hereinafter stated.

Sec. 23.101. PRIMARY PRIORITIES. (a) Except as provided by Subsection (b-1), the trial courts of this state shall regularly and frequently set hearings and trials of pending matters, giving preference to hearings and trials of the following: (1) temporary injunctions;

(a) A jury being impaneled in any criminal action, except as provided by Subsection (b) of this article, the cause shall proceed in the following order: 1. The indictment or information shall be read to the jury by the attorney prosecuting.

The court may set any criminal case for a pre-trial hearing before it is set for trial upon its merits, and direct the defendant and his attorney, if any of record, and the State's attorney, to appear before the court at the time and place stated in the court's order for a conference and hearing.
