Mar 2, 2025 · Classic & Vintage - Early 80's Trek 400 fork replacement - I am trying to track down a replacement fork for a 1983 Trek 400. The original fork was damaged years ago and in a pinch was replaced with a chrome fork.

My 15" Mongoose has 56cm ETT (effective top tube) as did a 1999 18" Trek 4000, so they both fit perfectly but the goose has about 1.5" more standover than the Trek. Looks like both the Trek fx and Fuji Absolute have a nearly 55cm. I'd probably go with those personally and get a …

Jul 3, 2011 · If you're talking about that 2004 Trek 3700 you were looking at the only weak point I can see is that I think it has a freewheel in back. Could be prone to bending and snapping axles. However I've had my similar Trek 4000 with freewheel into a few 2' airs and haven't hosed my back axle yet, knock on wood.

Jun 6, 2003 · I have an '02 Trek 4300 and my only gripe with it is the fork; it's an RST Capa and it really sucks -- there's a lot of slop in the sliders and you can really feel it when you bump the front brakes. I know that they changed the fork for the '03 models to something else, but just in case I would shell out a little extra for the 4500.

Sep 20, 2017 · Trek MTB bikes with FOUR digit model numbers have aluminum frames, THREE digit trek MTB's have STEEL frames.... 3700, 4300, 4700, 4500, etc. are aluminum framed... 220, 7xx, 8xx, 9xx have STEEL frames, period. First number is the frame type, second number designates the parts group installed at the factory....

Dec 22, 2010 · Holy crap. Find the frame you like the fit and geometry of, and ride it. Whatever the material. Arguing the merits of one over another is useless.

Jan 26, 2011 · Took 4 months (LBS seemed to be dragging their feet) but Trek replaced with frame with a 2011 Madone 5.9. Total cost to me was just barely over $100. Now according to Trek's warranty the Shimano components are covered by Shimano, not them. So legally I guess the truly responsible party was Shimano but Trek warranteed the item.

91 trek 1000 won't be anything to really write home about, fairly basic earlier aluminum frame with a steel fork. It'll ride ok but being an early 90s frame it might not be the most enjoyable frame, by the end of the 90s aluminum frames became a lot more compliant but the early 90s tend to be whippy or ridgid.
