The 18r is a good engine, it didn’t have sufficient air flow with the factory cylinder head to make a lot of power. There were two different versions they both made around 65 HP. The trick to getting lots of power out of an 18r engines is to find an 18rg top end.

Seem to idle sweet, took for test run of about 1km started to run rough would not idle. Engine smelt hot but temp gauge read OK.

Customer: Toyota Hilux Tray 1981 (4wd) -18R-C motor. Car loses power when driving at times. Have replaced fuel pump with new. Fuel in Carbie window is empty when problem happens. Fills up again after stopping or slowing right down and away you go.

Customer: Hi, I have a 1982 Toyota Hi Ace van with 18R motor. The distributor drive has 'broken'. The distributor drive has 'broken'. The distributor shaft and drive gear is fine and locates in the bush OK; however, the drive in the engine doesn't turn when the engine is cranked.

Customer: hi i have an 18r 1974 toyota corona my question is why cant we get it to run on fuel from the fule tank i have done a rought service and tune the plugs look and spark ok new air filter and the pump pumps well as we have had it run on fuel from a bottle but when its conected to the fuel tank it wont run the pumps getting fuel from the tank.
