Founded in 1946, the ICA is a membership institute that promotes and encourages an understanding of radical art and culture. Through a vibrant programme of exhibitions , films , talks and events , the ICA examines recent impulses in artistic production while stimulating debate surrounding the arts.

Originally conceived in 1946 by poet, anarchist, art critic and historian Herbert Read, alongside a group of artists and patrons including Richard Hamilton, Eduardo Paolozzi, Roland Penrose and Peter Watson, as a "laboratory" or "playground" for contemporary arts, the ICA continues to challenge traditional notions and boundaries of art forms ...

The ICA is located on The Mall in the heart of central London. The Mall London SW1Y 5AH. The building is open Tuesday - Thursday 12pm - 11pm (last orders at the bar), Friday and Saturday 12pm - 12am, and Sunday 12pm - 11pm; The ICA Bookstore and Box Office are open Tuesday - Sunday 12pm - 9pm; The galleries are open during exhibitions 12pm - 9pm
