At CHAW, we offer youth arts classes in visual arts, dance, music, theater, ceramics and photography for grades K-12. Our After School Youth Arts Program for grades K-5, is an opportunity for each child to tap into their inner artist and create community with their peers.

The CHAW gallery features a range of professional and student artists in shows and residencies throughout the year. The gallery showcases work by community members, as well as established and emerging local visual artists.

Apr 1, 2025 · The show will be on display in the CHAW Gallery, from April 1 to May 30, 2025. There will be an opening reception from 5:30-7:00 pm, on Saturday, April 5, at CHAW, where juror Glenn Kessler will discuss the selected artist works and award cash prizes.

Mar 8, 2020 · For three months this winter, CHAW’s 2020 Darkroom Artist Resident Carol Antezana worked in the darkroom and digital photographic facilities at CHAW, dedicating time to a project about motherhood, womanhood, and the aguayo — a traditional Bolivian carrying cloth.

Dr. Megan Yanik is the Chair of the CHAW Music Department and is the CHAW Faculty Board Representative. She has taught violin and viola to young children and students at the collegiate level for the past 15 years.

The darkroom at CHAW is the last community darkroom in the city of Washington, D.C. We offer regular drop-in hours and classes for black and white film development and printing. Come visit or inquire about usage at [email protected]
