The Blaan are neighbors of the Tboli, and live near Lake Sebu and Tboli municipalities of South Cotabato, Sarangani, General Santos, the southeastern part of Davao and around Lake Buluan in North Cotabato. They are famous for their brassworks, beadwork, and tabih weave.

One of the Indigenous groups that arrived in this once unnamed archipelago some seven thousand years ago are the Blaans. They comprise one of the major non-Islamic indigenous groups in Southern Philippines. The Blaans are found originally in that vast plain that stretches from the shore of the Buluan Lake moving Southward to the Bay of Saranggani.

The Blaan traditionally live in the hills near the Davao gulf in territory abutting that of the Bagobo, and in the Davao and Cotabato watersheds; more recently they have moved into the coastal area. Their culture has been changing very rapidly.

The Blaan language is classified in a group that includes the Tiruray and T’boli, which are distinct from the central Philippine group. The same pattern of scattered settlements exists among the group although the houses generally remain within sight of each other near swidden fields.
