There are 5-7 thicknesses of tapevsrying by color to identify such. If you use white Teflon, wrap it a few more times. On non-gas applications, I wrap white Teflon exactly 4 times.

If you are unable to tell if the threaded portion is tapered in diameter by visual, a threaded portion 1" long would be 1/16" smaller at the end than at a distance of length 1" from the end.

Oct 5, 2024 · Teflon tape is not a sealant, it just acts as a lubricant so that you can get a tighter friction fit up. Loctite makes a pipe dope that is good on plastic and most everything else. Plastic is not inert but PTFE, the basis of teflon pastes, tapes, etc, is pretty close to inert.

I often do this trick when installing probe-type low water cut-outs in boilers.

Don't use "stronger" Schedule 80 threaded fittings on the assumption that they may solve the problem of splitting through over-tightening. Do use only Schedule 40 threaded fittings with Schedule 40 pipe and fittings.

May 23, 2014 · The only thing I can think of is Swagelok branded tape is thicker than normal Home Depot tape so that might be slightly advantageous. But pressure rating? Someone is high if they think anything of the sort. As others have said, Teflon tape is only to be used on NPT fittings. It has no place on anything else.

Straight thread fittings do not needs teflon tape and are sealed with some sort of gasket/o-ring/washer. On the metal to metal flare fittings, you need the flare washers mentioned above.
