Paclitaxel (Taxol) and docetaxel (Taxotere) are widely used as chemotherapy agents. [2][3] Cabazitaxel was FDA approved to treat hormone-refractory prostate cancer.

They prevent cell division, or mitosis, the process cancer cells use to make more cancer cells. They kill cancer cells and slow tumor growth. Taxanes include paclitaxel, docetaxel and cabazitaxel.

Taxanes-containing chemotherapy constitutes an essential backbone for both early and metastatic breast cancer (mBC). However, the two major taxane drugs—paclitaxel and docetaxel—have distinct safety profiles.
