Tamron didn't bother trying to please a wider market by adding a macro mode. They kept the design deceptively simple, and instead chose optical excellence above all other considerations.

I’ve owned four CAT lenses, the 55BB, Tokina 500/8, Celestron 500/5.6 and Opteka 500/8. This Tamron is far and away the best, well worth having in ones kit. Sharpness is very good, I’d have given it an 8.5 if the rating were available.

Jul 14, 2024 · In comparison to two 28mm Vivitar/Komine lenses ($30 and $50) the Tamron shows very slightly sharper centre 40% areas at f5.6 and f8 but it is softer around the extreme 10% of the edges. This Tamron cost me $15 with the Adaptall 2 ring fitted. The 'BBAR' coating is pretty good and on par with Pentax SMC; one of the best of its day.

Oct 10, 2023 · Tamron was soft even stoped down and pictures lacked detail, built in filters are not that useful for digital bodies. Stop down metering was pretty much wild guess. The only advantage is that it's relatively cheap compared to other UWA primes, but maybe look for well regarded zooms like Tamron 17-50.

Uncropped except for the 3rd, all sharpened a bit. IMHO, these are some pretty nice pictures to begin the post processing with, but of course your taste may vary.
