Tabwakea is the largest village in Kiribati, located on the island of Kiritimati, within the archipelago of Line Islands. Tabwakea means turtle in Gilbertese, which refers to the island's first name given by James Cook, Turtles Island, which later became Christmas Island (Kiritimati).

There are five main villages on the island, four populated and one abandoned; Banana, Tabwakea and London, which are located along the main road on the northern part of the island, and Poland (near South West Point) and unpopulated Paris (near Benson Point), which are across the main lagoon to the south.
