May 31, 2000 · TWA retired the DC-9-10 in early 1999. The DC-9-50 and DC-9-40 and DC-9-20 were all retired prior to that. There are 27% of the fleet left in old colors. As noted none of the 757's are in old colors. The 727 fleet will be retired this year. The MD80s are being repainted when they go thru heavy maint. as are DC-9's and 767s There are currently

May 9, 2000 · If you want a DC-9 which unlike the -50 didn't seem underpowered, then I recommend the DC-9-21 - only ten built 30 years ago and only for Scandinavian. It was a DC-9-10 fuselage mated to a DC-9-41 wing and engines. In the 70'es they were called DC-9 Sport. They were made mainly to serve on short and often slippery runways in northern Scandinavia.
