Jan 20, 2006 · In a couple of weeks, I’m going to have to make a decision on our current project (new construction) to possibly substitute the specified 2×12 rafters with 12″ 560 series TJI rafters. Since the rest of the house (floor frames, girders, etc), except for the 2×6 and 2×4 fir stud walls (interior and exterior), is made up of structural ...

TJI's vs. Floor Truss - Fine Homebuilding
Dec 30, 2008 · I have done a lot of framing over the years, and have never used floor trusses. Now, TJI's, that is a different story. I would build with them in a heartbeat. My boss, built his house with 12" tji instead of 9.5 and loves the stiffness of the floor. In otherwords, designed for the 9.5 and substituted the 12".

TJI's and HVAC question - Fine Homebuilding

He says the trunk for the HVAC ducts would have to go under the TJI's, and that it has to go down the center of the basement. This would make the basement ceiling very low unless we take the foundation blocks up to 10'.

Jun 18, 2006 · The architect had specified 9 1/2″ TJI to span the addition (it’s approx. 37′ long and 25′ wide. Joists are running parallel to the 37′ run). Anyway, my question is, in the plans, they spec out TJI, but in the “first page” of the architect’s stuff, it says they can use I-Joist or Trus-Joist.

header off TJI for drain - Fine Homebuilding
Apr 16, 2006 · Poor planning on my part has led to a problem I was trying to avoid. Second floor bathroom, floor framed with 11-7/8″ deep TJI I-joists. We are trying to install a one-piece acrylic shower unit and ran into a problem – the drain for the shower is right over the top of (but not quite centered on) one of the joists.
