Spy vs. Scout: Relative merits: The Scout is one of your main counters. A typical Scout rarely stands still and is difficult to hit with any of your weapons. With his speed, he can simply bump into you to Spy-check and chase you down. Additionally, the Scout is far superior in a direct duel as his weapons are deadly at close range.

The idea of Spy originally came from a Quake glitch, which caused players of the enemy team to appear as allies. A common running joke and theory is that the Spy is the Scout's father. This is inferred from official media such as the Meet the Spy short and in-game domination lines introducing Spy's liaisons with Scout's mother.

Issue #6 of the Team Fortress 2 comic, The Naked and the Dead, reveals some information about the Scout's identity. He is at least 26 years old during the events of the comics. His first name is Jeremy, as revealed by the Spy.
