Technically nothing to do with any physical change (unless there's something else I'm unaware of). In terms of their label, the fact they later changed into the Dunmer is more of a coincidence?

Aug 1, 2018 · What changed between the Dunmer and Chimer besides their appearance. We don't know what the physical differences are other than coloration. It's possible that Chimer were simply an Aldmer subculture.
