The T-72 Adra (Arabic: تي -72 عدرا) or 'Mahmia' is a Syrian tank. It is a domestic upgrade to the T-72M1 that features slat armor, spaced armor, and chains to provide 360 degree protection from RPGs. [1]

The T-72 has been in extensive use in the Syrian Civil War by the Syrian Arab Army since 2011. Several captured units have been used by anti-government forces, including the rebel Free Syrian Army, and jihadist groups such as the Islamic Front and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.

Damascus is an area where tank combat is most famous, due to the famous Mahmia (AKA Adra) and Shafrah T-72 armor upgrades. An estimated 700 T-72s are believed to have been delivered to Syria in four batches. The first two batches came from the USSR.
