Order of things I learned to ride: Mtb, then Suzuki drz400, then BMW gs650, then a Sur ron. I think Mtb first helps, but really the Sur Ron is a great first dirt bike because it's so light, short, the power can be moderated, and you don't need to learn clutch/shifting.
