Feb 15, 2015 · When plugging any fan other than a SuperMicro fan into a SuperMicro motherboard, you need to adjust the IPMI fan thresholds, otherwise the board will detect the fan as spinning too slow, and it will compensate by spinning all of the other fans up to full speed. You can fix this with the IPMITOOL or IPMIUTIL.

This has been pieced together over some time and I finally got that "aha!" moment yesterday where it all came together. A bit of testing confirmed that this is effectively correct (even if SM might disagree on some fine details).

Jan 23, 2016 · The Supermicro page for that board does not even list a driver. btw, Windows does not need a third party RAID driver for Intel onboard SATA RAID. It should be able to see the RAID drive(s) natively.

(only disk of any kind attached is the boot drive, a p4800x 375gb optane U.2 nvme, connected via the SlimSAS x8 port (on the MB).
