In November 2019, Dr. Mohan Suntha was selected as president and chief executive officer of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS), a nationally recognized academic health system that employs 28,000 people across the state of Maryland at more than 150 locations, including a network of academic, community and specialty hospitals.

In 2019, Dr. Suntha was appointed President and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). Prior to this, he has held numerous administrative roles within the UM Medical System and School of Medicine.

Dr. Suntha is a radiation oncologist. He specializes in treating cancers of the head, neck and esophagus. Dr. Suntha first joined the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) in 1995 as an assistant professor.

Dr. Suntha has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), the system’s flagship academic medical center in downtown Baltimore, since May 2016, and previously as President and Chief Executive Officer for UM St. Joseph Medical Center (UM SJMC).
