Oct 30, 2023 · The central sulcus, also known as the sulcus of Rolando, is one of the largest sulci present in the brain. It is located between the frontal and parietal lobes. Apart from being the boundary between the two lobes, it demarcates the primary motor cortex ( precentral gyrus ) and primary somatosensory cortex ( postcentral gyrus ).

The central sulcus (fissure of Rolando) separates the frontal lobe (anterior) from the parietal lobe (posterior). The location of the central sulcus is made by finding the intersection of the superior frontal sulcus with the precentral sulcus on axial slices near the top: see figure 8.
