Generally speaking with the soviets, I use the TWS HDN in early game, and switch to normal TWS and PD at medium range. The TWS has the advantage of being a passive system that don't trigger RWR warning from a soft-lock, which makes it ideal for launching IR missiles.

Jun 30, 2024 · TWS mode locks well on targets like F-16’s and JAS39’s. In mountains and terrain it tends to lock up too. But at high altitudes it’s very good. The control and adjustments are bugged but overall it still works.

Dec 19, 2023 · Radar on Russian/Sov planes can be hit or miss, I find HMD radar refuses to lock the highlighted target 50% of the time. What you need to do is use TWS HDN. ITs great for ranges past 10km and TWS when they get closer.

Sep 17, 2022 · TWS stands for Track While Scan. Which means being able to have more information then regular search but still scanning the area. So in Su-27/33/J-11/MiG-29A/G you can use it to get altitude and speed for a target, but still scan the surrounding area.

Fulcrum and flankers in DCS have TWS available, but it automatically switches to STT within 80% of max range, iirc. As for the fulcrum, it also has TWS2, which allows you to lock on two targets at once (they need to be flying close together, though).

Jul 9, 2024 · Is there a technical or historical reason behind not allowing Su-27SM to launch R-77 in IRST track mode? Since in IRST track, you have both distance and speed information, i.e. you have the same information that you would have in TWS radar track mode.

This update to the Su-30 Fixes a lot of that, combining A-A and A-G variants into one Multi-role, and adding more accurate avionics and air-to-ground radar simulation. Codename Flanker are beginning to put themselves on the level of the A-4 and UH-60L mods.

Jun 27, 2024 · It’s only good against the sun temperature F-15S and F-14S and Su-27S. Pretty much useless against all else. Especially Gripen and F-16. And 9M you can fire from many angles, especially from above making it very hard to flare.
