The Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III) was an assault gun produced by Nazi Germany during World War II. It was the most-produced German fully tracked armoured fighting vehicle, [4] and second-most produced German armored combat vehicle of any type after the Sd.Kfz. 251 half-track.

It was an adaptation of the 7,5 cm KwK L/24 tank gun originally designed for the Panzer IV. It was well capable of destroying blockhauses and pillboxes at short, medium or even long ranges when in maximal elevation.

This is why the StuG was not only outperformed by proper tanks, but by the American TDs. Where the StuG III only made for an acceptable tank destroyer, the M10, with its rotating turret, made for a very good assault gun.
