Steyr M40 a1 threaded barrel: an interesting discovery
Feb 12, 2024 · The steyr 40 cal barrel is 10mm ID (minor dia or "at the grooves) and 14.94mm OD which gives you a wall thickness of 2.47mm. The minor Dia of m14.5-1 thread is between 2.09mm and 1.58mm. This means that you are losing 26% of your material's mass at the threads, and 59% of the mass at the relief cut.

Dec 17, 2007 · The design is sound, the pistols are made in Steyr, Austria where they've been making firearms for over a hundred years. That said I don't know of anything man made and mass produced that doesn't have issues from time-to-time. I have an M40 with thousands of round through her and an MA1 with a lot of rounds through it all without issue.

Jul 9, 2016 · My Steyr S9-A1 is current generation but my M40 is a Gen 1 and it seems to have the bigger issue. I have looked at the streamlight, surefire and Truglow options to this point and the Viridian was next on the list. I might have decided to go with the Micro-Tac Laser option on the S9-A1 but I still haven't found a good option for the M40.

m40, 357sig barrel conversion | Steyr Club Forums
Apr 2, 2010 · Good luck on the hunt. There were 4 barrels that Steyr shipped to SAI I think around November of last year. They sold within weeks. Took them(SAI) 11 months of asking Steyr to send as many as they had possible. So your best route would most likely be to go the IGB route.

Aug 29, 2021 · I have the newest generation Steyr M9 a2 MF and recently bought the used first generation M40 pistol (frame with the safety). Merely out of scientific curiosity I took the slides off and found out that the slides have exactly the same length. Then I mounted the M40 slide on the M9-A2 frame and the m9-A2 slide on the first generation m40 frame.

Although when I look at the pistol, it appears to have a picatinny rail, one supplier told me that the information he had told him that the M40-A1 has a proprietary rail. Anybody have any information on this issue, and any reccommendations on laser pointer sight suppliers.
