The M95/30 was a conversion in the First Austrian Republic by Steyr-Mannlicher during 1930–1940. These rifles carry the letter S meaning Spitzer stamped on the barrel. Main modification was the rechambering to 8×56mmR cartridge.

Approximately 3,500,000 Steyr’s were made by Œ.W.G. in Austria, F.G.GY. in Hungary, and Zbrojovka Brno in Czechoslovakia between 1896 & 1920.

Originally chambered in 8x50mmR, the vast majority were arsenal rebuilt and rechambered to the newer 8x56mmR in the 1930's. This rifle appears to have started life as a Model 1895 Short Rifle or Carbine. Marked on the top of the receiver is the make and model.
