Apr 24, 2010 · So I picked up a dirt cheap squier 51 just so I can learn how to do some upgrades. (would prefer to learn on a cheapy rather than a nice one). Does anyone have any suggestions as to what would be some good upgrades (compatible with the 51). For pups I'm thinking a dimarzio area 51 neck and maby a gibby 57 classic in the bridge.

Apr 24, 2010 · Here is my current setup of my Squier 51. It uses a DiMarzio Evo (DP159) in the bridge and a GFS TeleHumbucker bridge. I might convert the bridge to the recommended 3 barrel system and fill in the janky holes you see in the photo. The thing is due for a new paintjob in Maui Blue if you ask me.

Apr 24, 2010 · While I must tip my hat to Boris Bubbanov (who, in case you didn't know, is like the godfather of Squier '51 mods, hi Boris!), I think their discontinuation was related to the Squiers being too good, basically. Imagine you walk into a guitar store, looking for a low-mid-range guitar. You're figuring on a MIM Stratocaster or Telecaster.

Oct 7, 2012 · I've bought back my Squier 51. It needs a tone control in the worst way; A lot of 51 players use a concentric pot for volume and tone. Should I order a 500k/500k pot? Seems like the single coil in the neck position could get awfully bright with a 500k... Thoughts? :dunno

Aug 31, 2020 · I play a Squier jazzmaster on stage. The only reason I modded it at all is because I sweated into the pickups during this three night gig at an outdoor venue and I couldn't rewind them. They were ruined completely. The pots were getting noisy from heavy use too. Never played this place before and each of the three days it was well over 100 degrees.

Apr 24, 2010 · My '51 (below) came without a bridge pickup, and coincidentally my future wife bought me a Surf 90 to try out at about the sane time. Turns out it was a perfect match (wife's a keeper too )! The neck pickup JM swap was superfluous and probably not necessary because I quite like the stock neck pickup, but it didn't make the guitar worse.

Aug 13, 2011 · Worth noting is Fender Japan made a Tele\Strat hybrid that was the same configuration the Squier 51, Strat body with Tele neck, bridge bucker and Tele neck pup. It was on the market before the Squier 51 came out. This isn't an instance of Fender "copying" Squier.
