Sparidae is a family of ray-finned fishes belonging to the order Spariformes, the seabreams and porgies, although they were traditionally classified in the order Perciformes. They are found in shallow temperate and tropical waters around the world and are demersal carnivores.

Aug 1, 2004 · Sparinae have jaws with bluntly rounded posterior molars and enlarged front teeth, and are carnivorous on crustaceans, mollusks, and small fishes. Akazaki (1962) further subdivided Sparinae by erecting two new subfamilies, Diplodinae and Pagrinae. Diplodinae have six to eight anterior teeth in the jaws and obliquely projecting incisors.
