Sophora tomentosa, commonly known as necklacepod, yellow necklacepod, [3] and occasionally referred to as silver bush, is a pantropical [1] shrub or small tree in the Fabaceae family. It typically grows 4 to 10 feet tall and is often found in coastal conditions and near wetlands. [4]

Sophora tomentosa (Necklace Pod) is an erect, often leggy or sprawling, evergreen shrub noted for its showy flowers and interesting foliage. Blooming all year except in cold or drought periods, it produces irregular, pea-like, bright yellow flowers in showy 6-15 in. long spikes (15-37 cm).

Yellow necklacepod (Sophora tomentosa var. truncata) is a long-lived flowering shrub that occurs naturally in coastal strands, hammocks and dunes throughout Central and South Florida. The flowers, which bloom year-round, attract butterflies, bees, hummingbirds and other small birds. The plant provides food and cover for a variety of wildlife.

Sophora tomentosa subsp. truncata is a Florida native species. Sophora tomentosa subsp. occidentalis is native to Texas, but does well in South Florida, too. Both subspecies are well suited for USDA Hardiness Zones 9b-11. In cooler regions they will need cold protection.

Long-live and moderately fast growth rate. Drought and salt tolerant. Grown for its showy flowers and attractive foliage. Works well in the garden as a background or specimen tree. Can be defoliated by caterpillars or extreme summer/winter weather, but will resprout with better weather.
