Built in 1855, these locks connect Lake Superior to Lake Huron and beyond. Freighters, barges, tugboats and more are lifted and lowered the 21-foot difference between Superior and Huron.

The Soo Locks (sometimes spelled Sault Locks but pronounced "soo") are a set of parallel locks, operated and maintained by the United States Army Corps of Engineers, Detroit District, that enable ships to travel between Lake Superior and the lower Great Lakes.

Visitors to the Soo Locks can take in the sights and sounds of mammoth lake freighters and distinctive vessels, such as tall ships, sailboats, cruise ships, and military crafts locking into Lake Superior or Huron.
