The M-71 is a 155 mm 39 caliber towed howitzer manufactured by Israeli company Soltam Systems. The weapon was based on the earlier Soltam M-68 and uses the same recoil system, breech and carriage but had a longer gun barrel (39 calibre versus 33 calibre of M-68).

The 155mm Soltam M-71 heavy field howitzer was born out of experience with the design, development and manufacture of the previous M-68 artillery family (described in detail elsewhere on this website). The weapon features a longer barrel and air-driven rammer, while retaining much of the form and function of the original.

The M-68 is a late Cold War era towed howitzer of Israeli origin. It was the first indigenious towed howitzer produced in Israel. The M-68 may have been partially or fully designed by Tampella of Finland. The M-68 was developed into the M-71, which in turn forms the basis of the newer M845 and TIG towed howitzers developed in Israel.
