Apr 28, 2023 · Despite its Spartan design, this little bike would be made until 1988, with little bits and bobs added to it over the years. In that time, over 7 million of these mopeds have been sold worldwide. There’s even an entire museum dedicated to VeloSolex in Colijnsplaat, Netherlands.

This Solex 330 is in very good original condition. The paintwork retains most of its pin-striping, and it has a good engine. It was a gift from my French friend Patrick, who owned it for 11 years, buying it from the original owner.

The one we have for sale is a late 1973 Solex S 3800 USA. It came to us in pretty poor shape, so we replaced all of the weak points with all new components: brand new carburetor, brand new fuel pump, brand new NGK spark plug, brand new aggressive tires, brand new tubes.

Apr 7, 2025 · Almost all brands, including the glamorous ones, purchased carburettors from Solex. Inexpensive mobility for the masses was needed around the time of the Second World War. So the two entrepreneurs took old plans for an auxiliary motor out of the drawer and presented the first prototype of a friction roller-driven moped in 1941.

The Velosolex was France’s first postwar high production cyclemotor. It went on to dominate sales worldwide. It was not necessarily the best-designed – for example, the company did not introduce a clutch until 1958 – but excellent marketing and an efficient sales and distribution network ensured its place in motoring history.

In 1946, Solex launched its first model. It has not yet a commercial name, it will be called vintage 1946. It is actually a bicycle with an auxiliary motor, a new mode of locomotion for the time. The Solex 660 has the engine of its predecessor, the Velosolex 330, and innovates with its cycle part.
