May 29, 2019 · The XM4 program was started around 1985 at the behest of the USMC Recon units who were looking to replace their aging/worn out XM177s and M3s with a lightweight carbine length version of the standard issue M16A2 (adopted by the USMC in 1983 as the standard rifle).

Jul 1, 2006 · On August 15, 1994 the U.S. military adopted the M4 and M4A1 carbines. The only difference between the two is the M4 has a “burst” setting and the M4A1 has an “auto” setting. The vast majority of M4A1 carbines would be manufactured for the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM).

Further than 50m, because it's not the most accurate gun in the game, it can be out performed by TRs and LMGs. Positioning on this gun is very important. Run-and-gun playstyles and camping styles just aren't that good for XM4.

Sep 29, 2023 · Initially designated as the XM4 during its development, the carbine used the two-position adjustable stock of the XM177 series with an A2-profile barrel and a 1:7 twist for the newly adopted M855 ammunition.

Oct 22, 2024 · If you happen to have an opportunity to go through a bunch of military surplus M4s from different sources and eras, you’ll see that some have a heavier profile barrel, sometimes called a SOCOM profile barrel. The idea was that it could better withstand sustained full-auto fire.

Oct 28, 2024 · Brownells SOCOM profile barrel and H&R A2 upper, w/ CAR-15 handguard. No BCG or CH included. 180 rounds fired, cycles 100% perfect with a carbine buffer. The barrel is bedded for accuracy and cannot easily be removed from the assembly.

Jun 8, 2016 · There were reported about 1000 M4s when first issued with fixed carrying handle in 94-95ish. The M4A1 has always specified flat top upper wheter Govt profile or SOCOM barrel. SOCOM barrel didn't come out until around 2000 before then they were all Govt profile.
