Thicker material with extra fabric/hessian etc added. *The hood was only engaged in cold weather as scrim netting was draped over the face (face veil). Watching him fire the other sniper rifles there is an obvious lack of a lot of recoil with the M-16. In particular the WWII German Mauser K-98 pushed him around a lot.
