CFM International is a Franco-American aircraft engine manufacturer. The company is a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines (formerly known as Snecma) and is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was founded in 1974 to build and support the CFM56 series of turbofan engines.

Snecma enters the commercial aviation engine market by signing a partnership agreement with General Electric Aircraft Engines to make the CFM56 turbofan, via their joint company, CFM International.
Engines with the Tech56 modification all have a ‘/3’ suffix at the end of their model designation. The Tech56 engines incorporate an improved-emissions single-annular combustor, a re-designed compressor, and re-designed HPT rotor. Both main production groups include sub-variants covering the six available thrust options.
