The C151C trains are the fifth commuter type Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) to feature electric systems fully manufactured by Fuji Electric. Propulsion is controlled by VVVF inverter with two-level IGBT semiconductor controller, rated at 415 kV.

Mar 21, 2022 · The C151 End-of-Life Upgrading Project was a partially-completed train refurbishment and PMSM retractioning project undertaken by SMRT on Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151 trains. The project involved replacing the propulsion system, HVAC and auxiliary power system (APS), train management system, brake control and the compressor on each train.

Utilising the Thales SelTrac Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, the C151 trains are now capable of fully automated operations with a train captain manning on board. The C151 trains receive power through its current collector shoes, electrified by the third-rail electrification system alongside the running rails.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries & CRRC Qingdao Sifang 151C are the sixth generation of trains running on the North–South Line and the East–West Line.
