Those humpbacked Bodyguard revolvers... - Smith & Wesson Forum
Jun 3, 2013 · In late 1984, with the growing popularity of stainless steel guns, Smith introduced the Model 649, which was essentially a duplicate of the Model 49 in stainless. These were produced through the "dash 2" variation through 1996. In 1996, with a strengthened frame, a lengthened cylinder and a 2 1/8" barrel, the 649-3 was also made in .357 magnum.
Smith 649 at the range
Apr 12, 2012 · Smith 649 at the range I took out my newest toy to the range the other day, and I was surprised at how accurate it is considering the barrel length. I tried out three different loads that I had, I fired five 170 grain #358429 SWC's with a moderate amount of Win. 231, five 158 grain SWC's with 3.8 grains of 231, and 130 grain or so lead RN's ...
Bring back the S&W Model 649 357 Mag - smith-wessonforum.com
Dec 22, 2021 · I’m not sure why it was discontinued, but I wouldn’t mind seeing the 649 in 357 magnum brought back to production. The shrouded hammer and DA/SA option is something I really appreciate and the option to go with 357 magnum or 38 Special +P or even just 38 Special for ammo for carry.
History of the S&W Bodyguard revolvers - smith-wessonforum.com
Oct 5, 2015 · A small run of 649s in .38 special only was produced in 2003 as the Model 649-6. These also had the internal lock. The Bodyguard revolvers continue today in the modern iterations of the Models 649 and 638. The utility of a smooth-drawing and snag-free double action belly gun that can be thumb-cocked for precision single action fire is still valid.
"New" 649 - smith-wessonforum.com
Jan 16, 2025 · Made the mistake of selling that 649 after I retired figuring I would have no further use for it. I regretted selling it almost immediately, like selling an old friend. Finally found another and jumped on it like a duck on a june bug.
Shoulder holster for Mod. 649 - Smith & Wesson Forum
Feb 2, 2010 · I'm looking to buy a shoulder holster for an S&W Mod. 649 with a 2 1/8" barrel. I carried it in an IWB for a long time but I've gotten older and lazier and have developed a "gut" and it ain't as easy to draw as it used to be. I really need to get of my *** and exercise. Anyway, my main concerns are balance and retention.
649 Cylinder/Crane disassembly - smith-wessonforum.com
Jan 21, 2012 · 649 Cylinder/Crane disassembly My cylinder has been a little difficult to open for the last couple of range visits with my two year old 649, the extractor rod seemed tight. (The 649 was purchased new and no work has been done on it, except I …
649 vs. 642 (Performance Model) Member Recommendations
Jan 30, 2015 · The Model 649 is heavier, not being an alloy-framed revolver but it is just as compact for hiding purposes. It soaks up recoil better. It offers choices. One may shoot it in single-action mode or double-action. I like choices. It still slips in a pocket easily and is snag-free like the Model 642. The Model 649 is the gun that the Model 642 ...
Smith & Wesson Forum - Smith and Wesson 649 Bodyguard
Mar 20, 2016 · The original Smith Bodyguard, in it's various models, is a FINE revolver. Mine is a 649 that I have had for many, many years. I cast my own bullets and reload and have found that Ed Harris' recommendations for a carry load is about the best to be had.
649 (no dash): new to me. Thoughts? - Smith & Wesson Forum
Mar 30, 2021 · I bought a 649 no dash from an auction site. It’s a serial BEB63**. My guess made in the late 80s. It was described as factory new without a box. I asked if it had any rust or damage, and the seller said it’s just like it came from the factory. I purchased it (for a pandemic price). It’s a nice gun, and has definitely not been fired much ...
