Jun 1, 2006 · The term is sleeved, not re-sleeved, Mr Ben covered it quite well.The barrels are cut off at about 3" and the chambers are bored out enough to sleeve over the new tubes. Very often guns are sleeved down to a smaller gauge,and extreme care and expertise are needed to maintain proper balance and weight..As Ben mentioned, there is a lining method.

My first serious grouse/woodcock gun back in the 60’s was my Grandfathers handed down 16 Ferlach(Austrian) double/hammer gun, circa early 1900’s(not sleeved).

Sep 15, 2013 · Seller told me, that barrels were sleeved by original maker. Gun has modern Nitro proofs. In addition, wood parts are in great condition, metal, too. Ejectors and assisted-opening mechanism work properly. However, action has a nice case color remaining. To conclude, everything is allright, but gun has sleeved barrels. Why I am asking ?

The Weld seam on the exterior of the barrels are not always to the naked eye, but you can usually see the circles on the barrel face above the ejectors.. Bushrod

Aug 19, 2005 · It may be possible to have the existing barrel backbored to increase its internal diameter. It would depend on the thickness of the barrel and the depth of the pits but would be less expensive than a sleeve. Another possible fix would be to have the forcing cone lengthened, depending on the distance of the pitting beyond the existing forcing cone.

Dec 16, 2007 · There is a process called "lining" that slightly bores out the existing barrels and inserts a tube the length of the barrel. This process preserves the beauty of the damascus barrels. Nigel Teague does this and I believe it costs about US $3000. (£1500) for a sxs. It is also cheaper than fitting an entirely new barrel.
