May 15, 2023 · Hello, I have recently discovered Slap Chop and it seems like the perfect way for me to paint minis. I am wondering what paints and brushes are the best for this? I have some citadel contrast colours, but have never tried army painter speedpaint or Valejo Express Colors.

Jan 4, 2023 · Slapchop is effectively just a heavy drybrush of (generally) grey scale. If you've ever heard of "zenithal priming", it's that taken to its' extreme.

Nov 16, 2022 · You may not like Slap Chop, its simple zenithal applied with an actual dry brush, but that is the method the OP was following, which is clearly not the method you describe as En Grisaille. Do not confuse the two or insist one should never be used over the other, or suggest they are the same, because that is simply wrong.

Nov 9, 2022 · Ultimately, "slap chop" is a technique that works best with the paints it was meant to work with, if that's not too circular. It's mean to be used in tandem with speed/contrast paints because of the paint formulas, their viscosity, the way they pool.

Apr 5, 2022 · Hmm. For straight GW, I might go with Grey Seer base, Ulthuan Grey major highlight over most of the model, leaving the underneath as the darkest shadows of Grey Seer, then Wraithbone on top of that for the top level “sunlit” areas.

Oct 7, 2022 · Slap Chop is about setting up a gradient prior to applying a single thin coat of contrast paint. In this way you save a lot of contrast paint, which is expensive, and still get a really really great effect, honestly, usually better than the regular contrast painting. Also, you can take this slap chop method to an extreme rather easily.

Jan 27, 2023 · As contrast paint is primarily transparent, this means it's not able to tint the pure black part when using a black primer. With a dark grey base, I suppose this would allow the contrast paint to tint (slightly) the dark part of the mini. This would allow for softer and richer "shadows" while keeping the high contrast and speed of slap chop.

Mar 7, 2023 · With the slap chop craze blowing up all over YouTube I’ll admit for certain colour schemes I’d love to try it at some point. My only concern though, is it doesn’t seem to work as well for darker colour schemes like Caliban Green or in this case, Dark Angels Green contrast paint.
