The Blackburn Skua was designed for the Fleet Air Arm as a low wing monoplane primarily used for dive-bombing. The Skua was powered by a 905 hp 9 cylinder Bristol Perseus XII radial engine, which was somewhat underpowered.

This Skua was shot down by a Heinkel He-111 in 1940 and crashed on frozen Breidalsvatnet Lake in Norway. The crew survived and set it alight causing it to sink through the ice. It was recovered in 1974 and is now displayed in the FAA Museum in this diorama representing its resting place and even with model divers to show the recovery

The engine had become detached in the ditching. The fuselage, cockpit and wings were salvaged. The Skua will be restored at Norway's aviation museum in Bodø. In 1974, L2940 was recovered from Breidalsvatnet lake, near Grotli in Skjåk municipality in Norway.

It is the only surviving Skua and was recovered for the FAA Museum. It remains on display in ‘as found’ condition as part of the ‘Operation Skua’ exhibition.

The aircraft made a crash landing on the frozen Breidalsvalnet Lake near Grotli in Norway on 27 April 1940 having sustained damage during combat with a German Heinkel He-111 which it had just shot down.
