The southeastern plains are dotted with several clusters of koppies (or kopjes). Kopjes form a microhabitat inhabited by non-plains wildlife such as rock hyrax, klipspringer, leopard and various cliff-nesting raptors.

Simba Kopjes, towering over the Serengeti plains, are well-known for being the tallest kopjes in the park. Lions frequently visit this area, while the nearby swamp provides a home to rare Bohor reedbuck.

Simba Kopjes are the tallest kopjes in the park and a regular haunt for lions. The Simba Kopjes rise like giant sentinels on the open plains and, as the name suggests, are a good place to spot lions. The highest kopje is called Soit Naado Murt (in Maasai, the Long-necked Stone).
