The Silence is a British television crime drama, first broadcast on BBC One in 2010, which follows the story of a young deaf girl who witnesses a murder. The series was broadcast between 12–15 July 2010.

The Silence: With Genevieve Barr, Douglas Henshall, Dervla Kirwan, Harry Ferrier. An eighteen-year-old struggling to integrate into a hearing world following cochlear implantation witnesses the murder of a police officer. The subsequent investigation unravels a net of police corruption.

When three young girls turn up dead in Osijek, Croatian officials worry there's a serial killer on the loose; on the hunt for justice, detectives find help from the unlikeliest of allies, leading the group down a dangerous path.

Deaf teenager Amelia is learning to cope with her new cochlear implants and ability to hear. She moves in with her Aunt Maggie (a florist) and Uncle Jim (detective), and their teenaged children, whilst undergoing speech therapy. Whilst walking their dog one night she sees a woman being deliberately run over by two men, one of whose faces she sees.

2/4 Amelia identifies one of Jane's killers, while Jim starts investigating police corruption. 1/4 Jim struggles to make headway with the case while keeping Amelia's identity a secret.

The Silence is about an ordinary family thrust into extraordinary circumstances. The teenagers' partying lifestyles and casual drug-taking collide with Jim's investigation, and all their lives are hurled into a cacophony of police corruption, betrayal, drugs and murder.

Jul 15, 2010 · Australian screenwriter Fiona Seres had set the bar pretty high for herself. On the one hand, The Silence was a drama about an extended family, with the theme of wife Anne (Gina McKee), husband Chris (Hugh Bonneville) and their deaf daughter Amelia (Genevieve Barr) pushed front and centre.

Qi Wei Yi (Vic Zhou), an ambitious but lonely businessman whose only moment of happiness took place 13 years ago with a mute girl, "Zhao Shen Shen" (Park Eun-hye). When he was 15, he won a swimming competition and broke his leg, resulting in the alias "Plastered Leg".

Deaf teenager Amelia (Genevieve Barr, Liar) wants to adjust to the hearing world and escape her overprotective parents (Hugh Bonneville and Gina McKee). But when she witnesses a murder, it jeopardizes the career of her homicide-detective uncle (Douglas Henshall, Shetland) and endangers her whole family.

Dramatic events unfold in Croatia and Ukraine. The first girl drowned, the second one died from a drug overdose. The main suspect in these deaths, however, soon turns out to be innocent - and dead too.
