Sep 4, 2012 · Hi All, I am looking to get my first SIG 516 Patrol. My local dealer has one, but he cannot tell me if it is a Gen 1 or 2. Can anyone tell me what the differences are when looking at the rifle? Is a Gen 2 better than a Gen 1? Thanks.

Feb 21, 2013 · The manual for the SIG 716 seems all right. The Gas Port "Locator Points" are different for each rifle. On the SIG 516, settings (or "dots") are indicated by a vertical line on the Gas Block (highlighted in red). The SIG 716, on the other hand, uses a large circle towards the side of the Gas Block (highlighted in yellow).

Mar 5, 2017 · A 6-24x50 on my precision Sig 308, sitting on stout Burris rings. A 1-4x24 on ADM quick release mounts on my 516. Someday I hope to get a 6.5mm Grendel upper for the 516. I'd be looking for something over 20x for that, but I'm not sure it's a great fit on a 5.56, maybe a precision rig? (223 Wylde?) Anyway, very happy Vortex Viper PST owner.
