Sieg SC4: Question about carriage feed mechanism?
Jan 28, 2021 · I have been trying to compare and contrast the Sieg SC4 lathes with the Precision Matthews 1022/1030. The Precision Matthews 1022/1030 utilizes a key way drive system for carriage feed operations when you are not cutting threads. I have not been able to learn what sort of mechanism is employed by the Sieg SC4 to motivate the carriage feed.
Adding DROs to A Sieg SC4 (LMS 3540) | The Hobby-Machinist
May 29, 2018 · I ran across TouchDRO and Yuriy's Toys while looking into who makes DROs. Nice to see them on an SC4. I moved to my SC4 from a Sherline, and Sherlines don't have a carriage lock . I didn't know there was one on the SC4 until a couple of days ago. I had gone through the owner's manual looking for that term again and didn't find anything.
Sieg SC4 Lathe - noise reduction through headstock belt drive ...
Apr 28, 2024 · Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience converting my SIEG SC4 Lathe to a full belt drive system. As I keep my lathe in my apartment, the noise generated from the straight-toothed gears in the headstock was problematic. These gears transfer torque from the intermediary shaft to the main...
Carriage lock mod LMS lathe | The Hobby-Machinist
Jan 26, 2015 · (Similar to Sieg SC4 Lathe) This lathe has a carriage lock but taking a picture of it installed is impossible because it is mid-way under the carriage. The best view of it can be found on the exploded parts diagram in the (LMS 8.5x16 Lathe Users Guide.pdf). Ref items #231 (Bridled press plate) and #201(Press plate)
Sieg Sc4 Series Repair Parts | The Hobby-Machinist
Jul 6, 2016 · I don't know if you ever got the parts you needed. But, Grizzly has carried a number of the Sieg Machines and is an excellent source for parts, often at a lower price that LMS. The G0516 Lathe/Mill combo, has the lathe portion I believe from the same C4 Family of lathes.
New Sieg Runmaster 330x1000 Lathe | The Hobby-Machinist
May 20, 2015 · Fortunately My sieg SC4 uses 12mm tooling in the OXA post so I am OK in the short term but the BXA probably deserves 16mm in the future. Biggest problem is the Head stock and Tailstock tapers ( TS 4 MT & HS 5MT with 5 to 4 …

Can't Thread Finer Than 28TPI on LMS3540/Sieg SC4 Lathe?
Jul 2, 2018 · I've looked up the lathe on Sieg's website and they say it turns 8-24 TPI threads, so everything I tried - 32 and 40 TPI won't thread according to them. I looked up other companies that sell the SC4 and they quote the 8-24 also. In fact, LMS is the only place I can find that says it will cut pitches that fine. Which means they're the folks to ask.
Sieg SC4 (LMS 3540) doesn't stop quickly enough
May 11, 2018 · The SC4 uses a smallish DC motor and it is probably limited as to braking capacity depending on the design of the controller. Some DC controllers (like KB Electronics) you can set these parameters with pots, some have forms of dynamic braking vs. regenerative, but I would assume the SC4 uses a rudimentary design.
Strange Problem with Sieg SC4 (LMS 3540) and Ground Fault Outlet
Dec 30, 2019 · Maybe this is a problem that I'm the only person in the world has seen but with millions of SIEG lathes out there, maybe someone has seen it. My big lathe is a Sieg SC4 bought as the Little Machine Shop 3540. I've been having issues with a ground fault interrupter in my shop popping for a while that are definitely not related to the lathe.
