Aug 6, 2023 · If your bid is denied, nine times out of 10 it means that the shift was bid on by somebody else first. When I used to work in the front end, one of my managers told me that whomever bids on the shift first will get it. Sometimes, I would bid on shifts and get denied for it because it was outside of my availability.

Every year at my (45m) job we have a "shift bid" in which we put in for whatever shift we want, numbering them from most to least wanted. We have both 10 and 12 hour shifts as well as day and night shifts available. Shifts are awarded based on seniority. I've opted for the 10 hours shifts the past couple of years for various reasons.

When their time is is near they should be contacted (usually phone) and choose their shift. If they miss their spot then they are floating until contact is made or the bid is over.
