Senators are political representatives in the Senate, which is the upper house of the Legislature of Pakistan. They discuss proposed laws and vote on them like other representatives do, but Senators may have different powers than those in the National Assembly of Pakistan.

The Senate is the second chamber of the Parliament. It is independent from, and complements the work of, the National Assembly. The Senate shares the task of making and shaping laws and checking and challenging the work of the government.

In addition, Senate has some unique and important Committees. These are Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges and the Committee on Delegated Legislation. While House Committee and Library Committee are the domestic committees of the Senate of Pakistan.

Bills. A Bill is a legislative proposal in a distinct format, which becomes an Act of Parliament if passed by both Houses and assented to by the President.

The Senate Hall and the National Assembly Hall are situated back to back on the second floor and separated by a common area housing the lifts. The Senate Chamber has seating capacity for 124 Parliamentarians while the galleries can accommodate 353 persons.

The 1973 Constitution provides for a parliamentary form of Government with a bicameral legislature, comprising of the National Assembly and the Senate. The membership of the Senate, which was originally 45, was raised to 63 in 1977 and to 87 in 1985.
