Saturn emulation is good. I prefer to play on the hardware because Saturn has so many unique peripherals. The twin stick, the 3D controller pad, stunner light gun, etc. Also, you could pick up a cheap Saturn on ebay, get a Pseduo Saturn cartridge and burn game discs, or mod a Saturn with a Fenrir, or pop in a Satiato, and play games off SD card.

I did several trials myself and I'm afraid no matter what you do... it simply can't cope with the emulation specially with 3D games. Some 2D games can be barely playable.

I wonder if things got changed over time but from my experience, I can tell you that D-pad was not the same. Retrobit had more plastic feeling to it. So I ended up taking parts from my original Sega saturn game pad and transferred that to Retrobit controller.
