Esports was first introduced in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in the Philippines. The tournament featured six disciplines during the event which including four MOBA disciplines, one Fighting game and one Digital Card Game in Tekken 7 and Hearthstone , respectively.

Esports at the 2023 SEA Games took place from 6 to 15 May in Cambodia. Nine medals were contested in esports [1] which consisted of five games and nine events. [2] Participating nations, could only enter in seven out of nine events. Host Cambodia could enter all nine events. [3]

The SEA Games features numerous non-Olympic sports in its programme, reflecting the popularity of some sports to the region, or as a means of introducing more obscure sports to the region and beyond. [4]
