A Saurer APC outfitted for combat medical evacuation. Full designation is 4K 4FA-San (Sanitätspanzer). This model is unarmed and has a crew of two, the driver and the medical orderly, and it can carry four sitting and two stretcher patients.

The Austrian 4K 4FA APC was built by Steyr with sloped armor, low profile and all-steel welded construction in the 1960s. It was replaced by the 7FA.

In mid-1999, the Austrian MoD awarded Steyr-Daimler-Puch a contract for the supply of 112 Ulan infantry fighting vehicles for the Austrian Army. These were delivered from 2002 to 2004 and has now replaced at least part of the current Saurer 4K 4FA APC fleet of the Austrian Army. The 4K 4FA series will remain in service with Austria for some time.

The Leonidas-2 represented an effort made by the Greek vehicle manufacturer ELVO to produce an advanced armoured personnel carrier (APC) of its own. It is named after Leonidas, king of the ancient city-state of Sparta.

The suspension is well-made and gives the crew and passengers a reasonably-smooth ride for an APC of its period, and the good horsepower-to-weight ratio gives the 4K 4FA excellent speed and maneuverability.

Saurer APC may not seem impressive at first glance. Not too agile, not floating. It has little to compete in with a BMP. But first there is price - they are far more affordable. Then there is size: their transportation posses no challenge at all. Then there is a large stock of available spares. And the availability of tracks with rubber pads.
