Saudi Arabian art is contextual to the country being the birthplace of Islam; it includes both the arts of Bedouin nomads and those of the sedentary peoples of regions such as the Hejaz, Tihamah, Asir and Najd.

The Saudi Arabian Society for Culture and Arts, founded in 1972, sponsors Saudi artists and provides ways for new talents to develop and display their art. The society has established a library and information center, as well as the Kingdom’s first cultural center, located in Riyadh.

For seven years, there have been moves to build a community of artists in Saudi Arabia, beginning in the more liberal port city of Jeddah. Every February it holds an independent arts festival called 21,39 (the city’s co-ordinates on a map).
