To screen for persons with sarcopenia, we developed a simple five-item questionnaire (SARC-F) based on cardinal features or consequences of sarcopenia.

The SARC-F, a patient-reported questionnaire, is one example of a quick screening tool for sarcopenia (Table 1). 8 Studies have shown the SARC-F is suitable for community-dwelling sarcopenia screening. 9

The SARC-F Test screens for sarcopenia by assessing strength, walking assistance, chair rising, stair climbing, and fall history. It takes 5 minutes to complete and can be administered by a general practitioner or nurse. Based on the participant’s response, select a score for each question and calculate the total.
